Yoga and the mind/body practices of yoga were not always a part of the life of Nelda Barba. A terrible car accident left her mangled in pain many years ago. Doctors did not have much hope for her to live a normal life, and they assumed that pain medications and physical limitations would remain a constant for Nelda for years to come.
Living with the pain still at forty-years of age, she decided to try yoga at a local YMCA. Since then, she has continued training with many Yoga Masters on many levels, giving her the tools to help her excel in her passion for yoga, and Nelda's Yoga Studio wants to share that passion with you. Visit our yoga studio today to begin your yoga journey!
The Namaste gesture represents the belief of a Divine spark within each of us, located in the heart chakra, and is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another. "Nama" means bow, "as" means I, and "te" means you, and so Namaste literally means "bow me you" or "I bow to you."
To perform Namaste, we lace the hands together at the heart chakra to increase the flow of Divine love, then close the eyes and bow the head to help surrender to the Divine in heart. It can also be done by placing hands together in front of the third eye, bowing the head, and then bringing the hands down to the heart.
Namaste can be done to oneself as a meditation technique to go deeper inside the heart chakra, or with someone else as a beautiful meditation. At Nelda's Yoga Studio, we want to share this beautiful practice with you as you begin a journey of inner peace. Join us today!
"I am never bored in her class because of the great variability of exercises. To reinforce a final relaxation in every class, she puts a wet cloth over your eyes to reduce rapid eye movements."
- Anita Riska, Ph.D.

Nelda is the most caring and compassionate yoga instructor I’ve ever worked with. She starts out with your individual skeletal structure and leads your journey to your benefit. She has improved my balance, stamina and confidence. I’m so appreciative of Nelda. Not only that, her rates are reasonable. Thank you, Nelda.
- Loraine Tenbusch
“My Life, My Struggles, My Story,” tells of Nelda's transformational journey from growing up in extreme poverty and abuse to finding peace and joy with her children and the love of her life. Raised in the Philippines, Nelda never knew what love meant. All she knew was the physical, mental, and sexual abuse that she encountered from the people that were supposed to love her unconditionally.
Her healing process began when she started writing her story, “My Life, My Struggles, My Story.” Nelda shares her journey growing up in extreme poverty and abuse, riddled in shame and heartaches. And despite the challenges that finally came with love, she found peace and joy with her children and the love of her life.
Today, Nelda teaches Yoga, something that has held her together as a person. Yoga has allowed her to channel her creativity and share her enormous gifts with the world.
Nelda's Yoga Studio offers years of training and knowledge in the many practices of yoga since 2004.

The most important thing to wear to a yoga class is something that you can move easily in. Many people like to wear semi-form-fitting or form-fitting clothing. Our yoga poses involve standing, sitting, stomach-down, and lying flat on our backs, and even sometimes upside down. Form-fitting clothing helps to keep our tops and bottoms in place during standard and fluid yoga movements.
Not usually, but if you have serious health issues it might be best to meet with your doctor before starting a class or routine at Nelda's. This will help us both to know if there are any limitations to your movements. It's best for your doctor to state if there are any positions that you should avoid.
Our address is 221 South Tamiami Trail, suite 252 in Nokomis, Florida. We are on the east side of the street, south of Albee Road. We have plenty of parking and are handicapped accessible.
We can't wait to see you!
